In our continued efforts to empower the youth populace of Sierra Leone towards a better tomorrow on budget fundamentals, BudgIT Sierra Leone has been constantly facilitating activities that are change-driven.
In recent times, BudgIT Sierra Leone, in partnership with The Anti-Glossophobia Academy, implemented a successful one-day public lecture at Eastern Technical University on May 30th, 2025. At BudgIT Sierra Leone, we believe that hopes for the future lie in the hands of the young people. That is why we are empowering our youth to understand the 2025 National Budget and participate in Civic life under the banner of: Empowering Youths Through Budget Advocacy and Civic Engagement.”
At ETU SL, in attendance were over 500+ students who form a major part of different disciplines. Our Country Lead, Brima Sesay served as a one of the guest lecturers, and discussed “The Role of Persuasive Communication in advocating for budget transparency.” Mr. Brima spoke explicitly about the Budget problems and showed how public speaking can be utilized to bring about change. Students were fully engaged, especially in a fun and interactive quiz session. This lecture was a call to action for the government and citizens to promote transparency in budget decisions.
We also held a similar youth-centric workshop in Freetown, focusing on the areas of the 2025 National Budget, which forms part of a movement we are building, centered on budget education, civic participation, and empowering youths to effect change nationwide. In Freetown, youths had the opportunity to learn, unlearn, and relearn significant information about the national budget process, the flow of revenue and expenditure, and how they can be well-positioned to hold the government accountable when the need arises. By making the budget easier, understanding, and accessible, we are giving young people the power to speak up, demand better, and take part in shaping their communities.
As an institution, we are committed to equipping citizens with informed knowledge that will enable them to actively participate in decision-making processes and equally be a driving force that seeks transparency and accountability in terms of championing the national budget issues. Whether learning public speaking for budget advocacy in Kenema or exploring budget details in Freetown, Sierra Leone’s youth are improving. We have witnessed firsthand their enthusiasm and willingness to be a leading force in driving change. We are proud to work with this generation as they move from awareness to advocacy and from classrooms to boardrooms.
We, BudgIT Sierra Leone are here as a strong pillar, a collaborator, a partner, and most importantly, to be a leading public data organization focused on raising active citizens and civic leaders to lend their voices to improve governance and promote citizen engagement in good governance and societal reforms.
